Spanish 1 focuses specifically on your abilities to communicate in Spanish, the second most widely spoken language in the world (following Mandarin Chinese). Class time will be used to acquire new knowledge and to practice using the language within all modes of communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
The key to success in Spanish 1 is consistent review at home. You need to spend 15-20 minutes of daily review outside of class time studying vocabulary, grammar, and other topics. I will consistently post a variety of links to guide that practice on Schoology.
To assess the acquisition of Spanish, I will have regular assessments, quizzes, and tests. Tests will be divided into 4 sections based on the modes of communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Additionally, you will have frequent homework assignments to reinforce concepts from class and opportunities for project-based learning. Between the necessary daily study and assignments, you should always have something to work on for Spanish I. This is not just a class, you are learning a language. Your grade is based solely on how well you have learned the language.
