• About Poetry Out Loud

    https://www.poetryoutloud.org/

The purpose of Poetry Out Loud is to provide students with an opportunity to perform selected and original works of poetry in classroom, school-wide, regional, state, and national-level Poetry Out Loud Competitions. Students will be able to compete in the National Poetry Out Loud Competition and the State Original Poetry Out Loud Competition.

To compete, students must participate in the classroom competition orchestrated by their teachers by starting at the classroom level. Students must place first in the classroom competition to compete in the school-wide competition. The first and second place winners of the school-wide competition will move to the regional competition. The winners of the regional competition will have the opportunity to advance to the state and national competition levels.

National Poetry Out Loud Competition: Students choose one poem to recite from the poetryoutloud.org anthology for their class.

State Poetry Out Loud Competition: Students write one original poem to recite for their class.

As students advance through the levels of competition, more poems will be required for recitation.
