The purpose of Poetry Out Loud is to provide students with an opportunity to perform selected and original works of poetry in classroom, school-wide, regional, state, and national-level Poetry Out Loud Competitions. Students will be able to compete in the National Poetry Out Loud Competition and the State Original Poetry Out Loud Competition.
To compete, students must participate in the classroom competition orchestrated by their teachers by submitting a poem via pre-recorded video. Students must place first in the classroom competition to compete in the school-wide competition. The first and second place winners of the school-wide competition will move to the regional competition.
National Poetry Out Loud Competition: At this level, students choose one poem from the poetryoutloud.org website to memorize and recite on pre-recorded video.
State Original Poetry Out Loud Competition: Students write, memorize, and recite their own poem on pre-recorded video.
***Students must follow the Guidelines for Filming for their poems and videos to be scored.***
Students will submit their poems and videos to their teachers by September 24th. Results of the classroom competitions will be determined by September 30th.
Meeting dates are to be determined after classroom competitions.
