Hello, my name is Tavares Powell, and although I am a native of Birmingham, Alabama, my family of five relocated to the Madison area in July 2021 after residing almost 10 years in Austin, Texas. I have been married to my beautiful wife Jeri since 2004, and we have three children. My two daughters, Nadia and Chloe attend J.C. and my son, Chase, attends Liberty Middle School.

My career in education began in 2014 after working several years in corporate america and as a police officer in Montgomery and Birmingham, Alabama.

I obtained my undergraduate degree in Communications and a minor in English from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (Go Blazers).

In 2019, I have completed a Master's of Education degree in Policy & Leadership from the University of Texas Austin. (Hook 'Em)

As a teacher, I am able to incorporate a wealth of real world experiences into my lessons that challenges my students' thinking and inspires meaningful dialogue so that they are then able to take what they learn and immediately apply it to the world around them. 

My goal is that all my students excel in my class and when they leave, they have increased their reading & analytical skills as well as become more proficient and confident writers and communicators.
