Mr. Andrew James Cannon
Introduction
Hello. My name is Andrew Cannon, and I am entering my third year of teaching and my second year here at Liberty Middle School. I currently teach 6th grade English Language Arts, and I’m passionate about helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers during this important transitional year.
Educational Background
I earned my undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 2021, where I laid the foundation for my passion for English education. I went on to complete my Master’s in English at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in 2023. My time at UAH gave me the opportunity to not only deepen my content knowledge, but also begin teaching at the collegiate level.
Teaching Experience
Before joining Liberty Middle, I taught Freshman and Sophomore Rhetoric and Composition at UAH, which gave me valuable experience guiding students through more advanced writing and critical thinking. After that, I taught 7th and 8th grade ELA at Huntsville Junior High, where I developed a strong appreciation for the middle school classroom and the energy students bring to learning. Now, in my second year at Liberty, I’m thrilled to continue working with 6th graders as they develop their voice and confidence in reading and writing.
Personal Life & Hobbies
When I’m not in the classroom, I’m likely watching one of the hundreds of movies I enjoy each year. I’m also an avid reader of both books and anime/manga, and I love staying active with my wife and dog through a variety of physical activities—whether it's hiking, running, or just being outdoors.
