• Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Regional Poetry Out Loud Finalists. Notification was sent to the sponsors announcing the winners on December 18. These young ladies will compete in the state competition on January 29, 2021. We want to wish them good luck.

  • Video Guidelines for Poetry Out Loud

    Class competitions can be held in October from 1-30. Students are welcome to perform in the recitation and/or original poetry categories. If they would like to participate in both, it's perfectly fine with me. Students will perform using the video guidelines set by the state and national committees. The performance will be recorded, but it must be recorded from the waist up.

    If a student wants to compete but did not get a chance to in class, he/she is more than welcome to participate in the school competition. All are welcome.

      • Memorize one poem following the Poetry Out Loud guidelines (Recitation)
      • Write and Memorize one original poem
      • Write and Memorize one original poem about a challenge faced in 2020

        The 2020 Challenge is a new poetry event this year. It will be held as a separate category. Students will choose something personal or global that they feel passionate about from 2020 to create an original poem. The poem must be memorized for it to be considered. A prize will be awarded for the winner of this category on the school level. Please keep in mind, the students do not have to compete in original or recitation to be a participant in the school competition. Students, please remember to record yourselves from the waist up. 

    Video Tutorials and workshops are being created by regional coordinators for our district. This is the first in the series.

    The school competition will be held on November 13 via video submissions. Certificates for all participants and money will be awarded to winners and runner-ups. Winners will receive $100 and runner-ups will receive $50.

Applications containing information regarding the school, regional, and state competitions will be online and outside Mrs. Murray's room, S220, starting October 1, 2020.   • Greetings to all the poets out there,

     

    I wanted to send information regarding Poetry Out Loud and encourage you to participate in one of the three categories. The competitions will be virtual again this year. 

     

    Poems for the Recitation portion must come from the Poetry Out Loud website (https://www.poetryoutloud.org/). One of the poems needs to be pre-20th century and one needs to be 25 lines or less. Both of these can be found on the website. 

     

    School competition entries are due by November 6 via video submissions.  No class competition is needed, just the video. You will need to record yourself from the waist up. Certificates for all participants and cash prizes are awarded to winners and runner-ups.

    • Write and Memorize two original poems

    • Write and Memorize two original poems about social justice

     

    You may compete in more than one category. 

     

    2023 Social Justice Poem To compete in the Social Justice Poem Competition, the student writes, memorizes, and recites two of his/her own poems addressing any topic relevant to social justice and to the student personally. The Social Justice Poem may not duplicate an Original Poem entry. The poem must be memorized for it to be considered. A prize will be awarded to the winner of this category at the school level. Please keep in mind, the students do not have to compete in original or recitation to be a participant in the school competition. Please record yourself from the waist up.
