Mr. Matt Sweatman
Education
Mr. Sweatman is a proud graduate of the University of Alabama, where he earned his degree in Special Education in 2011 — Roll Tide! He went on to further his education with a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama in 2016. Most recently, he earned a Specialist degree in Principalship from Arkansas State University in 2023.
Experience
Mr. Sweatman brings 12 years of successful experience in Special Education instruction and athletic coaching. He began his teaching career in 2012 at Ohatchee High School, where he served as a Special Education teacher, head wrestling coach, assistant football coach, and head track and field coach over a three-year period. In 2014, Mr. Sweatman joined Bob Jones High School as a Special Education teacher. Over his nine-year tenure at BJHS, he made a significant impact as the head wrestling coach, leading the team to a 7A State Championship in 2018 and a State Runner-Up finish in 2019. In addition, he contributed to the athletic program as an assistant coach for varsity football and varsity softball.
Mr. Sweatman is starting his 2nd year at Discovery Middle School, serving as an Assistant Principal and the Athletic Director.
Biography
Mr. Sweatman is a native of Trion, Georgia. While attending the University of Alabama, he served as a student manager for the Crimson Tide football program under Coach Nick Saban from 2008 to 2011.
He is married to Anna Sweatman, a Registered Nurse in Huntsville, Alabama. Together, they have two children: Allie (8) and Mac (4). In his free time, Mr. Sweatman enjoys all things sports-related, traveling, and spending quality time with his family.
