Mr. Hiram J. Holt

Education

Mr. Holt graduated from BYU-Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Economics, and Indiana University McKinney School of Law with his Juris Doctorate. He completed his Master of Arts in Secondary Education from UAB. He holds an Alabama Professional Teaching Certificate in Social Science 6-12.

Experience

Mr. Holt has over 10 years of education experience. Before joining k-12, he was a college administrator for four years and worked for the Indiana State Senate as a legislative assistant for another four years. Mr. Holt taught at Shades Valley High School and Gardendale High School in Birmingham before joining Discovery Middle School in 2021.

Biography

Mr. Holt is a native of Rexburg, Idaho, just outside Yellowstone National Park, and currently resides in Madison. He loves to travel and has a goal of visiting every state in the U.S. After high school, he served a 2-year mission for his church in New Zealand and the Cook Islands. He loves Polynesian culture, beaches, the ocean, food, music, and being with people! 

Mr. Holt has three children (two sons and a daughter), and his wife was a math teacher who now works at Boeing. Mr. Holt is a third-generation educator and enjoys learning about all sorts of topics. He went to law school with a desire to work in government, and after a few years working for the Indiana Senate, he was recruited to work in education. Mr. Holt’s grandfather was an elementary school teacher and carpenter during the summers. When his grandfather passed, Mr. Holt acquired some woodworking tools and enjoys learning this new hobby his grandfather loved. He recently began fishing and has a love for early mornings quielty by the water fishing and watching the sunrise. Mr. Holt also practices law in the Madison area balancing his estate planning law practice with teaching in the classroom; doing two professions he loves.

Mr. Holt is one of the academic leaders for the optional school field trip to Washington DC. Students who attend visit numerous historical sites around our nation's capital.
