Dr. Sarah Prevallet
6-8th Grade Science Teacher
Dr Prevallet attended Russell Sage College for Women in Troy, NY and graduated in 2005 with a degree in Biology, Pre-Medical Studies. She spent a year at the Wadsworth Research Center in Albany, NY working as a Lab Manager in Dr. Sam Bowser’s Lab. She was inspired to return to school and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2012 with a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology. Her thesis work was done in Dr. Andrea Page-McCaw’s Lab and focused on the characterization of an unknown gene, Ninjurin.
While completing her thesis work, Dr. Prevallet. became passionate about education through her experiences teaching Introductory Biology Labs and Cell and Developmental Labs. She chose to leave bench science and enter the secondary classroom after completing her thesis. She taught High School Physics, Chemistry, and Marine Biology at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN for three years. She taught Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology at Randolph in Huntsville, AL for three years. Most recently she taught 8th grade Physical Science at Mountain Gap P-8 in Huntsville, AL. This is Dr. Prevallet’s third year teaching 6th-8th Science at Discovery Middle School.
Dr. Prevallet grew up in the mountains of northern NY. She moved south to pursue her PhD at Vanderbilt University. She fell in love with her husband and the south. She married her amazing husband in 2015. Together they have two spunky, smart, and lovely little girls (age 3 and 5). In her free time, Dr. Prevallet loves to play with her girls. She also loves to quilt, embroider, and read.
