Mr. Clayton Sloan
Clay Sloan served as band director at Austin HIgh School in Decatur, Alabama from 1993 until his retirement in May of 2025. Throughout his tenure the band program consistently received superior ratings at district and state assessments in marching band, concert band, jazz band, and percussion.
Under Mr. Sloan’s direction, the Austin High Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble were selected to perform at the Alabama Music Educators Association State Conference.
Mr. Sloan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a Master of Arts degree from the University North Alabama.
As a performer, Mr. Sloan has performed with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and is currently principal timpanist for the Orchestra Sul Ponticello of Decatur. He has also played and conducted for numerous musical theater and church productions throughout North Alabama.
His professional memberships include Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, the National Association for Music Education, the Alabama Bandmasters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
He is proud to be an endorsing artist for Mapex Drums, Majestic Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads, and Innovative Percussion Sticks & Mallets.
Mr. Sloan is married to the former Miss Tina Rye of Detroit, Alabama. They are blessed to be the parents of a beautiful daughter, Anne Katherine.
