Mrs. Bliss Garrett
Hello wonderful people! My name is Bliss Garrett. I am proud to be a teacher at Journey Middle School, home of the Jaguars!
I grew up in the Tuscaloosa area where I attended Paul W. Bryant High School. I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016 with a degree in Theatre. After spending time working in the Birmingham area, I decided to pursue another degree. I moved to Florence, Alabama, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in Mathematics from the University of North Alabama. So Go Blazers and Roar Lions all day, every day!
I am very close to my family. My husband, Jake, is an electrical engineer in the Huntsville area. He is my rock. Last November, Jake and I welcomed Lila, our baby girl, into the world. She is the absolute light of our lives. I love, love, love being her mom and I will show her off any chance I get. My mother is a United States Navy veteran of whom I am very proud. GO NAVY!!! During my free time, you can find me hanging out with my pets, reading, or playing Nintendo Switch. I also really enjoy all things breakfast, especially cooking it. I always have fun at sporting events such as baseball and hockey.
I started my career in Madison City Schools at Liberty Middle School where I taught Design and Modeling, Computer Science Essentials, and CodeSpace during the second semester of the 2022-2023 school year. During the 2023-2024 school year, I taught Accelerated Math 7, Math Lab, and Design and Modeling. This school year is my second year teaching 6th Grade Math (Math 6 and Accelerated Math 6) at JMS!
I am the club sponsor for Girls Who Code. Anyone interested in joining is welcome at any time once the club starts meeting! The club will become active during the spring semester. Specific days and times will be announced at a later date.
If I could express anything to my math students, it would be that I am in your corner on this math adventure. Even if you are not a math person, I aspire to help you gain more confidence in the subject. I look forward to teaching you and hope you have an enjoyable experience at Journey!
