There are kids who love reading and kids who are reading the wrong books."

About Me
From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to become a teacher; school and learning were (and still are) sources of great joy for me. So, upon earning my undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama, I began teaching 4th grade Science and History in Montgomery, Alabama. After two great years, my husband and I decided to relocate back to the Huntsville area where we both grew up.
Not only was the decision to move back terrific for our family, but it gave me the opportunity to join the ranks of Madison City Schools! After substituting for a brief time within the district, I was hired at Horizon Elementary as a 5th grade English Language Arts teacher. The role was a perfect fit; the more I learned about teaching reading and writing, encouraging avid (and reluctant) readers, and introducing research skills - the more I wanted to know. During my five years at Horizon, I extended my professional certifications by adding Middle School English Language Arts and completing a master's degree in Library Media. Both of the additions strengthened my ELA content knowledge, but they also opened doors.
This year marks a new beginning for me. As the Media Specialist at Journey Middle School, I am looking forward to sharing my passion for reading and learning with the school. I cannot wait to partner and collaborate with all of the students, teachers, faculty, and parents!
