Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
I am approaching this school year with great excitement!! I am looking forward to a wonderful year filled with exciting and challenging learning experiences. Your child's happiness is very important to me because his or her success is built upon happiness.
Let me start by introducing myself to you. I live here in Huntsville with my husband of twenty-nine years and our two children. My daughter is a doctor completing her residency as an Ob/Gyn and my son is in the U.S army serving our nation.
After completing my Bachelor's in Secondary Education, I taught High School for three years. I graduated with my Bachelors in Elementary Education from Athens State University, and with a Masters in Education--Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix.
This is my twenty-second year working at Madison City Schools. The first fourteen were at Heritage Elementary School, and the next five years at Liberty Middle School, MCS. I have taught 5th grade for 2 years, and 6th grade for 16 years. Before that, for two years, I worked with EL students as well as with fourth and fifth grade students at Heritage Elementary School, MCS. I have coached the 6th Grade Math Team for several years at Heritage Elementary School...and absolutely loved teaching the Math Team at LMS too. This will be my 3rd year coaching the 6th-8th grade Math Teams at Journey Middle School.
If someone were to ask me what brings me the most joy in my teaching career, the answer is simple: teaching the math team. It’s more than just equations, competitions, and trophies—though those are exciting. It’s about watching students light up when a problem finally clicks. It’s about nurturing perseverance when the answer doesn’t come easily. It’s about building confidence, one solution at a time. Every student who joins the math team brings a unique spark, and together we create a space where thinking deeply is celebrated and curiosity is never out of place. I’ve had the privilege of guiding incredible young minds, watching them grow—not just as mathematicians, but as leaders, teammates, and problem-solvers. To me, the math team is a family. We laugh together, struggle together, and succeed together. And I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
I completed my National Certificate for STEM Teaching and am an NCST graduate too! I am so excited to be beginning my 22nd year at Madison City Schools at Journey Middle School!!!!!
