The Art Club application window for the 2026–2027 school year will open in mid-August.
Information and reminders about the application process will be shared in August. Notification will be delivered through school social media platforms, morning announcements, and posters displayed throughout the school.
The Art Club at Journey Middle School welcomes students in all grades who have a passion for art, regardless of whether they are enrolled in an art elective course. Membership is limited to 25 students, and acceptance will be granted to the first 25 applicants based on the order in which completed applications are received. Students will be notified in writing after the enrollment window closes.
What Will Art Club Meetings Look Like?
Art Club is designed to provide students with a relaxed and creative environment to explore art outside the classroom setting. Unlike an art class, there are no grades, assignments, or deadlines, and students will not be penalized for missing meetings.
Art Club will be sketchbook-based. Each member will receive a sketchbook to use throughout the school year during meetings. Members will use their sketchbooks to experiment, practice skills, explore ideas, and develop creativity in a low-pressure environment.
During meetings, members will be presented with a creative prompt, art technique, or medium to explore in their sketchbook. Students may choose to participate in the featured activity or use the time for free drawing in their sketchbook instead. Members may also work independently or collaborate with other club members.
Cell Phone Expectations
To help maintain a focused and creative studio environment, cell phone use during Art Club should be limited. Phones may be used for art-related purposes, such as reference images or creative inspiration, and for communication with parents or guardians when needed.
Excessive or distracting phone use may result in a student being asked to put their device away during the meeting.
Fee
Each Art Club member is required to pay a non-refundable $15 fee. This fee covers the cost of the club sketchbook and consumable art materials used throughout the school year.
Students must be paid members in order to attend meetings and receive their sketchbook.
