National Board Certified Teacher Master's of Arts in Special Education (Gifted) Bachelor's of Science in Education

Mrs. Wendy Tibbs

I love my job!  I have the honor of getting to work with fantastic students for more than just a single year, which I love because it gives me a chance to really connect with many great families in our community.  Our city's gifted program is focused on meeting the needs of each of our identified students! We offer Concept-Based units in different areas including inventions, economics, crime scene investigations, and anything else our students are interested in. Throughout these units of study we inject many analytical and creative thinking skills. We welcome community members to come in and share their passions with us! I am a lifelong learner, so I am always up for whatever new topic my students want to explore. If you have a special interest and would like to present it to our students in single presentations or with a series of lessons, please contact me at wtibbs@madisoncity.k12.al.us or Ashley Herron at adlangherron@madisoncity.k12.al.us.

I am a National Board Certified Teacher, earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Arkansas State University, and a Master of Arts in Special Education (Gifted) degree from the University of Alabama. I am a member of  Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. I arrived at West Madison to teach third grade in the Spring of 1995. I began teaching Madison's gifted students the following school year at Horizon, West Madison, and Madison Elementary Schools. Eventually, Heritage Elementary was added to our system, and I taught at Heritage and West Madison. Over the years, as we added new schools and more gifted teachers to the Madison City system, I became the sole gifted teacher at West Madison Elementary. In 2021, I was thrilled to move from WMES to Midtown Elementary School. Due to our growing population, we now have a second teacher part time here at Midtown, Mrs. Ashley Herron.

Prior to moving to Madison 1993, I taught first grade in Missouri, second grade in Arkansas, third grade in Tennessee and a fourth-fifth grade split class in Kentucky. I also taught third grade at West Madison. These experiences really helped me when I began teaching all levels of gifted classes.
