Hello, My name is Ikia Young, and I am thrilled to be the SPARK special education teacher at Journey Middle School. I'm originally from and was born in Pontiac, Michigan. I have been living in Huntsville, Alabama, for 4 years, and I am proud to call the Rocket City home! I’ve earned my Bachelor's in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. The study of relationships and people has also been a passion of mine, and I am excited to continue my education and apply my knowledge in the special education department.

Outside the classroom, I love staying active and spending time outdoors. My husband and I were both full-time student athletes in college, and we still love to participate in our sports. We love to travel, hike, watch basketball, and eat! As a first-year teacher, I committed myself to creating a classroom environment filled with patience, understanding, grit, resilience, and empowerment, allowing each student to put their best foot forward each day.
