Becca Wilson

I am so excited to be a part of the Midtown Wildcat Family, and I am looking forward to our year together!

I graduated with a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2013.  It has been an honor to be a part of Madison City Schools for the past 11 years.  I taught 1st and 3rd grade at Mill Creek for 7 years and have been a Reading Coach at Horizon for the past 4 years.  I obtained my National Board Certification in 2018.  I believe that reading should be at the center of every classroom and am committed to making all students successful readers.

I began pursuing my CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist) certification this past summer in Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama.  This program is giving me a deeper knowledge about dyslexia, and I am being trained to deliver intervention using the Neuhaus Basic Language Skills curriculum which is a State-approved Tier 3 intervention.  I am looking forward to sharing my new knowledge with teachers and students with the ultimate goal of ensuring that all of our Midtown students are reading on or above grade level.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a Child Life Specialist for 10 years.  I worked with cancer patients and families in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and burn victims and families in Birmingham. I also worked in Huntsville with children having surgery.  I graduated from Florida State University with a Master of Science degree in Child Development with a concentration in Child Life Studies.

I have been married to my husband, Trav, for 21 years, and we have 2 daughters - Alex will be a senior and Lucy a sophomore at James Clemens High School this year.  I am an avid college football fan.  I cheer for the Florida State Seminoles and the Auburn Tigers.  I love to read and spend time at the beach.
