CHILD NUTRITION

The Madison City School System will be continuing with the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program for the 2026-2027 school year. Meals are planned by a Registered Dietitian and comply with standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture. The Madison City School Board encourages all students to support the school lunch program by purchasing a school-made meal each day. This site contains information designed to make this process simple and convenient.

The Madison City School System participates in the Offer vs. Serve program. All students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade shall be permitted to decline any one of the four items offered at breakfast; however, every student must select a fruit or fruit juice. Students may decline two of the five items offered at lunch; however, every student must select a fruit or a vegetable.

If your student qualified for free or reduced-priced meals in Madison City Schools during the 2025-2026 school year, they will receive the same eligibility for the first 30 school days, ending on September 18, 2026, of the 2026-2027 school year. If you do not reapply for Free and Reduced Meals, your student will return to Paid Meals on September 18, 2026. We will begin accepting new applications for the 2026-2027 school year on July 1, 2026.

More information about the Free and Reduced Lunch Program and how to apple can be found here.
