Instruction

Per Alabama Administrative Code (Chapter 290-8-9.00), our department delivers specially designed instruction at no cost to families. We focus on adapting content and delivery to address the unique individual needs of students with disabilities, ensuring access to the general curriculum.

Behavior

Per state guidelines, if a behavior is identified as a special instructional factor, the IEP Team implements positive interventions and strategies. Additionally, if behavior is noted as a deficit by the IEP team, the strategies and interventions are integrated into the IEP through measurable annual goals, necessary accommodations and modifications, and related services designed to support both the student and their educators.

Psychological

Per Alabama Administrative Code (Chapter 290-8-9.00), psychological services are a vital component of the IEP process. Our psychologistobtain and integrate information regarding a child's learning conditions to help staff tailor instruction. This includes everything from administering assessmetns and interpreting the results to assisting in the creation of proactive behavioral interventions, ensuring a holistic approach to meeting each student's unique educational needs.

Speech

In alignment with the Alabama Administrative Code (Chapter 290-8-9), a speech or language impairment is defined as a communication disorder, specifically in articulation, voice, fluency, or language, that adversely affects a child’s education. Our team works to identify these barriers and provide the necessary instructional interventions to bridge the gap between communication and classroom success.

Other Related Services

In accordance with the Alabama Administrative Code, our district provides all necessary related services required for every to student fully benefit from their special education program, tailored to individual needs. Based on the IEP Team’s determination, these may include therapy (physical, occupational, or speech), school health and nurse services, and counseling. Our goal is to remove barriers to learning by providing the specific expertise and resources necessary for student success.

Extended School Year

In accordance with the State of Alabama, Extended School Year (ESY) services are available for students who require instruction and related supports outside of the typical school term. ESY is not "summer school," but rather a specialized extension of the IEP. The IEP Team determines eligibility for ESY on an individual basis to ensure a student receives a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
