Transportation Admin Named

Madison City Schools welcomed its new Transportation Administrator today.

Dr. Travis L. Schrimsher Jr. was approved by the Board Friday and reported to work today at the Transportation Depot.

He replaces Mr. John Wilson, who is retiring at the end of the month. The Transportation Department employs over 100 employees and buses more than 5,000 students daily to schools and also on field trips and athletic events.

Dr. Schrimsher most recently served as instructional and administrative leader of Monrovia Middle School. He has also served as a principal, assistant principal, coach, and teacher across several school districts over his more than 20 years in education, including administrative positions at Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools.

Teacher-coach stops included Florence County Schools in South Carolina starting in 1998, Shelby County Schools in Memphis and Rutherford County Schools in Tennessee before accepting a teaching and coaching position at Bob Jones High School from 2008-2011.
He was assistant principal and summer school principal at BJHS in 2012 then assistant principal at JCHS from 2012-2013. Dr. Schrimsher was principal at Decatur High School from 2013-2016 and Principal at Athens High School from July 2016 to April 2019.

A graduate of the University of Alabama Superintendents Academy, Dr. Schrimsher earned both his Ed.D. in Leadership and Professional Practice and his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Athens State University and did graduate coursework at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.
