Mr. Jamie Hill
Hello Columbia Astros family!!
Welcome to all of our new and returning students!! We are so excited about the new school year and all it has to offer the Columbia community!! We will work collaboratively with the faculty, staff, parents and community to help create leaders of the future. I look forward to strengthening our partnership to help your child achieve their goals. We are continuing to bring the Leader in Me student leadership curriculum on board this school year, so please stay tuned!! Columbia's faculty and staff look forward to celebrating with you the achievements of all of our students.
Our Columbia family is currently serving near 750 students in grades K-5. It is my hope that you will immediately feel welcomed and at home as you become involved in the activities made available through various Columbia clubs and organizations, PTA and your child’s classroom. For those new to the Columbia family, I would like to extend a very special welcome. We are all looking forward to getting to know all of our students and their families throughout this school year.
This school year our focus will continue to be on school, teacher and student relationships and leadership. In addition to relationships and leadership, our focus will continue to be on increasing academic achievement. Our high curriculum expectations will be aligned with state standards as we seek to ensure that our students master the content presented at each grade level. Our faculty has been committed to their own learning as is evidenced by their participation in professional development throughout the year. Much of that learning occurs within our walls among teachers as they share their expertise and best practices with each other. That learning is furthered through our partnerships with our sister schools and other educational experts that provide professional development and training for our district. We are proud of our commitment to educational excellence and celebrate the continued growth and progress of our students.
We have an "Open Door" policy at CES....I am always open to fresh ideas that will help to improve our school community and make our Columbia “Astros” stronger and eventual prepared graduates for a challenging society.
This year, we have placed our parent-student handbook in your child’s classroom as well as on our school’s web site. Please take time to read over this as it will answer many of your questions. Most importantly, please take a look at our procedures for student drop-off and pick-up. In order for traffic to flow smoothly and to create a safe environment for our children, it is imperative that we work cooperatively with one another. Please make every effort to ensure your child arrives at school between 7:10-7:35 am and attends school daily. In addition, please pay close attention to the dress code section of our parent-student handbook. I respectfully request that you help us enforce all of our procedures.
Each year the teachers examine and analyze test data and various other forms of data to determine the most effective instructional strategies for the students in their classrooms. This process continues throughout the school year, and as a result, the teachers collaboratively plan and develop instructional lessons which address the multiple learning styles and learning needs for all of our students.
CES is recognized by the Alabama Department of Education as an Alabama Reading Initiative Site (ARI) and an Alabama Math Science Technology Initiative (AMSTI) site.
We have many exciting activities and changes planned for this school year. We solicit your input and support throughout the year. At Open House, as well as the first few weeks of school, you will have an opportunity to join PTA. I would like to encourage you to do so. It is essential that we, as a family, work together to collectively reach our goals for our students and our school.
I know that this school year will be one filled with great achievements. Please join us in making this experience a remarkable one. Remember, my door is always open. Thank you in advance for your support.
