MCS Top Teachers/Staffers Honored at Schools

Madison City Schools awarded top teachers and staff members of the year this week who were selected at each school by their peers.

The annual prize patrol-style announcements were led by Madison City Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols and other top administration, instruction and operations leaders.

The so-called TOTY-SMOTY awards refer to Teacher of the Year and Staff Member of the Year awards.

Recipients were selected by colleagues at their respective schools and each awarded a $500 check. Retirees were also honored at each school visit with a gift bag.

The revelations were often made in classrooms or common areas, much to the surprise of the honorees. Tears of joy and humbleness were common reactions, with colleagues often cheering on the accomplishments.
