Dr. Georgina Nelson

Hello!  My name is Dr. Georgina Nelson and I am the principal at Heritage Elementary School. I was raised in Madison County and am a graduate of Buckhorn High School (Go Bucks!). I live in Madison with my husband Patrick my twin girls, Arabella and Kaitlyn, who attend Heritage. Patrick is an attorney for the US Army and works on Redstone Arsenal. My bonus sons are Nathan and Andrew Nelson who are both very successful products of Madison City Schools.

I attended The University of Alabama for my B.S., Ed.S., and Ph.D. degrees.  While in Tuscaloosa for my undergraduate studies I also marched in the Million Dollar Band, which was an awesome opportunity. As you can imagine we are avid Alabama fans and we enjoy tailgating and attending many football games.  However, we also have to appreciate Auburn University, as our oldest son, Nathan, loves Auburn and graduated from their education program.

We are active members of Holmes Street United Methodist Church in Huntsville.  My main leadership roles at HSUMC are leading worship as a member of our praise band, director of the children’s choir, and leader of Financial Peace University. Since the birth of our twins, I have been very involved in the Huntsville Area Mothers of Multiples (HAMOM) group and enjoy the fellowship I have with fellow MoMs.

Professionally I am involved with numerous organizations such as the International Literacy Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Council of Leaders in Alabama Schools, and the Alabama Reading Association were I have served as past president.  During my spare time I enjoy cheering for Alabama football, going to the beach and/or mountains, day trips with my family, reading, cooking with my husband, going to the movies, and generally, just spending time with my family.

I am very honored to serve as principal of Heritage Elementary School. I love working within the community where we live and raise our family. It is a joy to work daily with our staff and parents as we work together to meet the learning needs of all of our students.
