CHILD NUTRITION
The Madison City School System will be returning to the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program for the 2022-2023 school year. Meals are planned by a Registered Dietitian and comply with standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture. The Madison City School Board encourages all students to support the school lunch program by purchasing a school-made meal each day. This site contains information designed to make this process simple and convenient.
The Madison City School System participates in the Offer vs. Serve program. All students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade shall be permitted to decline any one of the four items offered at breakfast; however, every student must select a fruit or fruit juice. Students may decline two of the five items offered at lunch; however, every student must select a fruit or a vegetable.
For more information on the National School Lunch Program, please visit the national website here.
If your student qualified for free or reduced-priced meals in Madison City Schools during the 2021-2022 school year, they will receive the same eligibility for the first 30 school days of the 2022-2023 school year. Every student should receive a paper copy of the application on their first day of school; however, it is only necessary to complete one application (online or paper) per household per year. If you feel that you need a paper application, you may stop by the Madison City Schools Central Office at 211 Celtic Drive to pick up one or you may email the Child Nutrition bookkeeper at cnp@madisoncity.k12.al.us and one will be emailed back to you.
The online application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals is available here. Press Release regarding Free/Reduced applications here.
