In accordance with School Board Policy, Madison City Schools (MCS) provides hospital/homebound services to students who are unable to attend school for medical and/or mental health reasons for six weeks or longer. Hospital/Homebound Services are meant as a short-term intervention and do not in any way supplant attendance in a regular school for an extended period of time.
Hospital/Homebound services are only for students currently enrolled in the Madison City School System who must be temporarily confined at home or in a health care facility.
The purpose of hospital/homebound instruction is to sustain the continuity of instruction due to a child’s medical needs or exclusion due to disciplinary reasons, as well as to facilitate the student’s return to school.
Eligibility for hospital/homebound services requires that written documentation from a treating physician or psychiatrist be presented to MCS prior to consideration for services. In addition, a student may become eligible for hospital/homebound services based upon a finding by the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Team that hospital/homebound services are necessary and appropriate for the student. IEP/504 Teams may, in accordance with state and federal guidelines, remove a student from regular attendance and place them on homebound services.
