MCS Counselors Honored By BOE

The Madison City Board of Education recognized several of its counselors for earning statewide honors.
School leaders said it is noteworthy the array of services MCS counselors provide and that they earn multiple counselor awards in back-to-back years.

Counselors and their awards are as follows:

Stephanie Allen, Mental Health Services Coordinator for Madison City Schools, for earning the Counselor Administrator award by the Alabama School Counselor Association. This award recognizes one person each year who provides outstanding support services and leadership to school counselors while operating in an administrative capacity with the school system.  

* Columbia Elementary counselor Sadie Sturdivant for earning the Asa Sparks New Counselor of the Year Award by the Alabama School Counselor Association. This honor recognizes one school counselor in Alabama who has been in a school counselor role for less than three years and demonstrates excellence in the school counseling profession and implements a top-notch comprehensive school counseling program.

* Carissa Davis, counselor at Midtown Elementary, as the ASA Sparks New Counselor of the Year recipient for 2021.

Mrs. Carol Torello, guidance counselor at Rise Academy of Madison City Schools, was recognized tonight by the Partnership for a Drug Free Community for receiving its award earlier for her work and advocacy with youth at Rise, which is housed at James Clemens High School. Ms. Torello was cited for her advocacy and proactiveness in programs steering youth from tobacco, vaping and drugs,
