State of Schools Report
Madison City Schools Superintendent Robby Parker joined superintendents from Huntsville and Madison County in the annual State of Schools report hosted by the local Schools Foundation.
The forum enables school leaders to dialogue with employers on curriculum and internship opportunities that will better prepare students for future workforce demands.
A centerpiece of the program was a check presentation from the Schools Foundation and Committee of 100. The groups raised $200,000 to be shared with all three school districts to help more teachers attain National Board Certification.
NBCT reps from all three systems spoke about the rigorous NBCT training, cost, how it helped them to be a better teacher and how students ultimately benefit.
Jane Haithcock, english teacher at Liberty Middle, represented Madison City Schools.

Then, superintendents took part in a panel discussion led by Ms. Fleming. They addressed a variety of issues including curriculum offerings, education challenges, state mandated testing, internships, struggling students, workforce partnerships and other topics.
Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Kevin Byrnes challenged the audience with a projection that 23,000 new jobs will be created in the Huntsville area by 2023. That will demand strong schools and relevant programs for future workforce development.
