What an incredibly busy first three days we have had! We spent all of our time meeting new friends, learning rules and procedures, taking a tour of the school, and learning about our classroom. We read The Kissing Hand and then made a kissing hand for you! I hope you enjoy the sweet picture. The first couple of weeks are very important for learning our routines and getting a great start to make it a wonderful year!
Rest mats are coming home today. The students only had rest time two times this week. Please do not feel like you need to wash the mat this week. I sent them home primarily for the students to practice rolling up their mat. With practice we can make this an independent task. Before sending the rest mat back to school on Monday, please practice until your child can roll it up correctly and independently.
I look forward to seeing each family represented at Kindergarten Parent Night on Monday, August 12th at 5:00. The meeting will be in our classroom. Please plan for at least one parent to attend, preferably the parent who will be working with your child on homework and doing most of the communication with me throughout the school year. We request that no children attend this meeting. It typically lasts two hours.
This year we're going to use a tool to share what we're learning in class called Seesaw. Your child will have his or her own digital portfolio, and you can get notified when your child adds new items. It's completely private -- only you can see your child's journal outside of class. There will be a sheet with directions to sign up in your child's Daily Folder on Monday. Once you sign up, you can download the Seesaw Family app for iPhone or Android, or access your child's portfolio on the web. Throughout the year, you can save the picture/videos and send to grandparents if you'd like.
