MES Updates and Reminders Oct 18-22, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Good Afternoon!  We have had a great start to the second nine weeks and are looking forward to a wonderful rest of the semester.  Weekly reminders and updates are as follows:

Report cards are going home for all students in grades K-5th this afternoon.

The monthly PTA meeting for October will take place this Monday, October 18th at 6:00pm in the gym.  This meeting will be streamed live via our school's Facebook page (Madison Elementary School in Alabama).

Our annual MES Teacher Treat Trail will be held outside on Friday, October 22nd from 5:00-6:30pm at the playground track.  For this year's Treat Trail candy donations, our MES PTA is holding a contest among classes in each grade level with the winners being determined by total candy weight.  Students may participate by bringing in unopened, individually wrapped bags of candy with the name of their homeroom teacher attached to it.  PTA will collect the bags from each homeroom and weigh them to determine the winners.  Each grade level's winning class will receive an extra recess and a popsicle party.  Bags may be brought in through Wednesday, October 20th.  (Please see attached).

Our Fall Book Fair will take place in the library media center from October 18th through October 22nd.  Please see the attached letter for more information.

Red Ribbon Week will take place October 25th-29 with a daily dress-up theme for all students, teachers, and staff.  Please see attached for each day's theme as we look forward to all of our Hornets participating.

Greg Machen Photography will take makeup yearbook pictures for Madison Elementary students who need one at their studio on Thursday, November 4th from 3:30-4:30pm.  Proofs will not be ordered for these but the photographer will show parents/guardians the picture on the back of the camera and they can pay for their picture package that day.  If your child is in need of a makeup yearbook picture on November 4th, please contact Greg Machen Photography at 256-461-0827 to set up an appointment during this timeframe.

All attendance excuse notes need to be emailed to mesattendance@madisoncity.k12.al.us.

Transportation Reminders:

Our building opens on school days at 7:10 to receive students who are car riders, bus riders, and walkers.

Our morning car line for car riders is open from 7:10-7:35 and runs from College Street following the parking lot arrows parallel to the awning-covered sidewalk on the side of the building.   Parents are to come to a complete stop behind the vehicle in front of them before students exit the vehicle.  Parents then need to remain in their vehicle as staff members working the car line will help assist students in getting out out of their vehicle as needed.  Parents who arrive after morning car line has closed will need to park in the school parking lot and walk their students in to the front office lobby.  Parking across the street at First Baptist Church and walking across College Street is not allowed.

Afternoon car line is open from 2:40-3:00 and runs the same route as morning carline.

School Dismissal Manager is the program that we use to safely ensure that every student's dismissal plan is known by parents and school staff ahead of dismissing at the end of the school day.  Setting the default dismissal on School Dismissal Manager for your child is REQUIRED so that our teachers and staff know where our students need to be sent at dismissal time.  This is a vital part of our school safety plan so we cannot continue to release the students as car riders, bus riders, walkers, expanded day, vans, etc. without it first being set up in School Dismissal Manager.  If you have any questions regarding how to set up default dismissal in School Dismissal Manager, please email Mrs. Phillis Gaines at pgaines@madisoncity.k12.al.us.

Our buses unload in the mornings in front of the school and load in the afternoons in the same location as well. Bus routes are still being adjusted as our Transportation Department works to fine tune our morning pick-up and afternoon drop- off times.  If you have any questions about your child's bus number/color or pick-up/drop-off times, please contact our front office at 256-772-9255.

Walkers are students who walk from their residence to school in the mornings and to their residence from school in the afternoons.  All students who do not walk from or to their residence need to be dropped off and picked up via the car line.  Parents are not allowed to park and then have their students walk in or out of the building.

If you have any questions about arrival/dismissal procedures or any other topics, please feel free to email our principal, Mr. Jamie Golliver, at jbgolliver@madisoncity.k12.al.us.

Thank you and we hope that everyone has a great weekend!--ME
