MES Summer 2020 update #1

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Good afternoon!  I hope that this message finds all of our MES families doing well and enjoying summer break. I have some new information regarding summer procedures/activities to share with you.

As we begin to transition back to our “new normal”, essential employees will be back to working in the physical school building. Beginning June 9th, Madison Elementary will have office hours by appointment ONLY from 9:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M Monday-Thursday.  You may schedule an office appointment by emailing Mrs. Gaines at

All visitors to the school will be required to pass a COVID-19 screening that includes a temperature check upon entering the building. A mask is REQUIRED to be worn in the building during the entirety of all appointments and meetings. Employees will be wearing masks as well.  This procedure comes from our Madison City Schools plan for returning to campus and is the procedure for all school campuses in our district. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Please do not make appointments to pick up student belongings or to drop off school items.  We will send out details and information soon about the plan for picking up student belongings that were left in desks and cubbies and dropping off school items such as textbooks and library books. This process will take place through the car line area and will include social distancing while being as contactless as possible.  Again, details will be coming soon in regard to this.

The district technology department will provide us with a plan at a later date in regard to returning technology you have checked out. Please keep these items in a safe and secure place until then. We will not be accepting device drop-offs at Madison Elementary School at this time unless you are withdrawing from MES.
I have received many questions about registration. If a student is new to Madison City Schools, registration is currently open. If you are returning to Madison Elementary next year, the tentative date for re-enrollment via PowerSchool is Monday, June 8th. You should receive an email with a code and directions for re-enrollment. Please make sure your email address in the INOW parent portal is up-to-date. If you have a student entering kindergarten, we hope to have kindergarten screening dates to you as soon as we have clearance to do so. Many decisions regarding activities that we normally do in the summer will depend on guidance from the state school superintendent’s plan. This plan is tentatively set to be released mid-to-late June.
