School Year Calendar Options Due to COVID-19

The Madison City Board of Education is reviewing several revised school year calendar options for the 2020-2021 school year that is targeted to start in August. The previously adopted calendar must be admended to adjust for a later school start recommended by the state schools superintendent.

Three proposals were introduced. Draft A and Draft B have 175 instructional days for students and Draft C has 180 days, with various other adjustments to things like holidays and professional development. Teachers continue to have 187 work days.

Here is a general summary of highlights.

The Board invites public feedback. Comments can be directed to board members or to Mrs. Dorinda White at dcwhite@madisoncity.k12.al.us. The Board would like to vote on a substitute calendar by early June.

The previously adopted calendar for 2020-21 - and the 2021-2022 calendar which is not being changed at this time - can be viewed under the calendar tab on the MCS website.
