Ms. Cam Broadway

Education

Ms. Broadway graduated from Randolph School nearby in Huntsville, and proceeded to Auburn University for a degree in Secondary Social Science Education.  After teaching high school social studies and experiencing students with differing learning needs, she participated in a grant program at Auburn to earn an M.Ed. in Emotional Disurbance and Autism.  The certification from this ABA-based program allows her to teach preschool through age 21 students with disabilities in a variety of settings.  She also completed the coursework for Registered Behavior Technician training.

Experience

After graduation, Ms. Broadway worked as a manager at Grand National Golf Course in Auburn for 2 years before returning to education.  She had worked there during college, and could not resist the chance to stay at that beautiful location as long as she could!  Then, she returned to our area and taught middle and high school special education before having the opportunity to work as a state employee as a teacher in a state penitentiary near Montgomery.  Later, her grandmother, locally, fell ill, and Ms. Broadway moved back to Madison to assist her, and began serving as a developmental pre-school teacher for a district-wide program that served preschoolers with disabilities.  After several years, she returned to high school special education, and then stayed home for about a year after having her son, Malachi, who attends Liberty Middle School.  Upon returning to work, she had the very special opportunity to serve as a resource specialist in Madison County Schools for about five years.  Though this position was a true pleasure, she missed teaching high school students and was blessed to be able to return to the classroom to serve as a case manager at Sparkman High School for three years, until the opportunity arose for her to join Discovery Middle School's team this year.  Discovery is an incredible place with truly wonderful students, parents, teachers, and administrators, and it is her joy to serve there!

Biography

Ms. Broadway was raised on a working crop farm in Limestone County and she loves the land and lifestyle to this day.  She has one son who is an amazing person, multiple-time state champion athlete, video game player extraordinaire, and dedicated student and servant of others.  She is favoured with a wonderful circle of family, friends, co-workers, and church family as well.  She has a Collie named Sirach (Malachi chose this name from the Catholic Old Testament when he was six,) and two black cats named Kodiak (he looks like a bear,) and Huge (after one of the competitors on BattleBots.)  She and her family love anything to do with animals, the river, hiking, kayaking, and serving in the church and charities together; and she is also a Sunday school teacher.  Her father retired from the arsenal and is a certified Harley-Davidson mechanic who actually attended the original school in Miluakee in 1970 for his training.  Her mother is a former nurse who is retired to the family farm. Her Godmother, who has been a tremendous influence on her life, was also a Montessori-type school teacher.  Ms. Broadway loves seafood, Pirates of the Caribbean, Marvel movies, and studying the Plantangent Kings of England when she has the chance to keep up with her life-long learning.  She showed horses at the World Championship level in high school, from which she learned invaluable lessons about hard work and dedication, and this later led to her being a riding instructor for a time.  Ms. Broadway participated in several organizations while at Auburn, but had the unique and lovely experience of serving as a Tigerette during the 1993 undefeated football season!  War Eagle!  She would not like for you to notice how long ago that was...

Ms. Broadway has a special connection to education.  Though some of her elder family were not able to finish school due to the demands of farming, her grandmother valued education so much that she did graduate, and wanted to make sure Ms. Broadway had the chance to receive a wonderful education, so she sold land many years for Ms. Broadway to be able to attend Randolph- creating in Ms. Broadway a tremendous reverence for the value of excellence in education and respect for the positive and indomitable impact education has and can have on each and every child.  It is her pleasure to serve her families and students, Discovery, and Madison City Schools, and she wishes your family the best school year ever!
