Master of Science in Education, Samford University Gifted Specialist

Mrs. Teresa Schmidt

Teaching Gifted students is my passion! I am so excited to work with your children this year. Your student will be involved in a learner-centered course that empowers them to put a mark on the world.  It will be a year of exploring project-based and passon-driven projects intended to cultivate leadership skills, community partnerships, and an innovative growth mindset. Through self-guided explorations, research and reflection, students will gain a greater understanding of themselves as learners, problem solvers, and contributing members of society.

I am originally from the lovely state of Florida where I started teaching later in life. My first degree was in Forensic Science. Before children, I was a Fire Investigator with a private firm determining cause and origin of fires. There are some great stories during this time of my life! After marriage and kids, I went back to school for my second degree in K-6th Elementary Education. I taught Kindergarten for two years and fourth for five years. When I moved to Alabama I began teaching gifted students and received my Masters of Science in Education from Samford University. I love teaching but quickly realized my passion ignited when working with gifted students. Currently, this is my seventh year with gifted students.

My wonderful husband is an engineer with the Army. We have four kids (Abbey, Asa, Jake, and Joshua). We live in the country and have two dogs, two cats, and  twenty-five chickens. I love sitting on my back porch and sharing time with my family (including my mother and inlaws who live with us).

I am honored to be a part of Madison City Schools and Liberty Middle School. Please feel free to contact me. I look forward to working with you and your amazing children.
