Mrs. Kimberly Dykes

Hello! I am Kim Dykes, and I am a Speech-Language Pathologist at Columbia Elementary School. I located to Madison from Panama City Beach, Florida and am starting my forth year at CES. Here is a little bit more about me:

I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2005 from Auburn University. Afterwards, I remained at Auburn and completed a master’s in Psychology with a concentration on Applied Behavior Analysis and Developmental Disabilities. As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, I provided therapy to children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the home setting and clinic setting for over ten years. During my time as a behavioral therapist, I realized the value of interventions that focused on building communicative skills and began to collaborate with the Speech-Language Pathologists in my area.  After careful consideration I decided to return to school to learn more about how speech and language develop, and how to remediate these skills when they are delayed. I received my master’s in Communication Disorders from Florida State University in 2015.

I have been employed as a school based SLP since 2015 and love it! I believe that therapy should be fun and engaging. So while we often do traditional drill and practice, I try to also incorporate play based therapy and hands on activites when appropriate. I am particularly interested in articulation therapy, social language, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

I met my husband while I was at Auburn University and we have been married for 11 years. We have two sweet boys and two sweet pups. In my spare time I enjoy going on adventures with my family, researching anything and everything, and renovating our fixer-upper!

If you are ever on campus, feel free to stop by and see me. I love getting to connect with parents. Find me on Facebook as SLP Kim Dykes!
