Elizabeth Bero joined the Horizon family as Gifted Specialist in 2003. Mrs. Bero was proud to be Horizon's Teacher of the Year in 2011-2012. In 2014 she was awarded the Best Environmental Education Program award from the Environmental Educators of Alabama Association. In 2020 Mrs. Bero was one of three educators in America awarded the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Foundation Educator Achievement Award. Mrs. Bero served on the executive board of the Alabama Association for Gifted Children from 2016-2018. She is currently serving on the executive board at the Von Braun Astronomical Society Planetarium and is an instrumentalist in her church choir.

Mr. and Mrs. Bero have three children, who all attended Horizon from kindergarten through sixth grade. All three graduated from Bob Jones High School and either currently attend or have graduated from different Alabama state universities.
