Mrs. Shemeaka King

Greetings!

I am honored and delighted to be your child's 2nd-grade teacher this school year!

My name is Shemeaka King and I graduated from Alabama A&M University with both my Undergrad and Master's degrees. I have also completed graduate work in Instructional leadership. I started my teaching career in 2nd grade, at a Christian private school where I taught for two years, 1999-2001.  I began teaching for Madison City Schools in the Fall of 2001. I taught kindergarten for 12 years, from the Fall of 2001 to the Spring of 2013.  In Fall 2013, I began teaching 2nd grade.  I am starting my 23rd year of teaching in Madison City Schools and my love and passion for educating increases every year. When I'm not teaching or leading professional development, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, being active in my church, learning, reading, and exercising.

I am extremely honored to be named the 2020 Teacher of the Year!  To be honored with this title for something I absolutely LOVE doing feels absolutely AMAZING!

In short, my educational philosophy is that every child is unique and requires LOVE and patience when being taught. Teachers should Value their students by building authentic relationships with them. I believe teachers should be Lifelong Learners, be willing to try new things, Overcome Obstacles in order to grow, and strive to incorporate Effective and Engaging teaching strategies. I also believe that a positive school culture, one that is culturally responsive, plays a vital role in making sure that children have the best school experience ever!

I absolutely LOVE teaching and look forward to an outstanding school year!
