Thank you for visiting the Parent Resources Page.  You are a vital part of your child's reading success, and we want to partner with you to make your child successful.  The most important thing that you can do is show your child that reading is important.  It is the most important thing that they will ever learn to do.  Everything in their life will have something to do with reading.  They should read EVERY day.  They should see you read EVERY day.  There is nothing like putting your child in your lap (or sitting next to them if they are "too old" to get in your lap) and sharing a book.  This is where you can have the most impact.  Kids who read more have higher achievement.  Take a look at what the research says:

     Why I Can't Skip Reading

Your child's 1st grade year is a BIG transition. This is where they will really learn to read. Learning different phonics patterns and reading more automatically will help set them up to be life-long readers.

    2nd grade

2nd grade will be such a fun time for your child. This is when they will really perfect those phonics skills and be able to read more fluently. Developing stamina to read is a key part of this year. As they transition to reading more chapter books, their reading world will really expand.

    3rd grade

3rd grade is when your child will really start to dig deeper and and learn how to infer when they read. Comprehension really starts to cement itself during this year. Learning lots of reading strategies will be at the heart of their instruction.
