Mr. Danny Elegante

This is my 27th year teaching. I spent 13 years at Grissom High School and this begins my 14th year at Bob Jones. I teach PreAP and AP Chemistry here at Bob Jones. I enjoy cooking and woodworking at home. My wife Donna and I have a son Chris who lives here in Madison with his wife Johnna and a daughter Sarah who teaches 5th grade science in Nashville. We have two dogs, Cooper and Maggie, that we rescued in 2018. Oh, and I have a passion for BACON!

My mantra for my classes is students should be the hardest working people in the room. People learn the most when they work, fail, recover, and work some more. On the first day of class students see "Failure is expected and encouraged" and I convey that every day. Most of my students will not use Chemistry content every day in life but all my students will need the ability to work independently, deal with adversity and know the value of hard work.

Outside the classroom I work for A+ College Ready, a group in Alabama working to increase the rigor and expectations for all students in Alabama. I help review students for the AP exam throughout the state, train Chemistry teachers during the summer and help write and organize Chemistry and AP Chemistry curricula for the state.

I've been an AP reader since 2003, spending a week every summer scoring the AP Biology free response questions with 700 colleagues. This experience has improved my teaching immensely and I've made lifelong friends there.
